The Department of Mathematics and Science Education has started to take undergraduate students to the Department of Mathematics Education since the 2017-2018 Academic Year. The Department of Mathematics Education aims to pave the way for teacher candidates to become resourceful teachers through compulsory and elective courses. The teacher candidates are expected to develop their practices within the scope of community service practices, have the background to do action research via projects, and become ready to teach by observing and giving courses to different levels of students through school experiences courses.
The Department of Mathematics Education consists of six academic staff: a professor, an associate professor, two assistant professors, and two research assistants. They carry out scientific studies in their fields with pre-service and in-service teachers and middle-grade students. In this context, they publish in national and international scientific journals, present papers in various scientific organizations, and take active roles in scientific research projects. They also carry out administrative duties in our faculty and university units, give seminars and consultancy to our students within specific programs.
The graduates of the program can primarily work as middle school mathematics teachers in public and private schools. They also have the opportunity to continue graduate education at national and international universities. In addition to training middle school mathematics teachers with its undergraduate program, the department also offers a graduate program that will support the in-service professional development of teachers and bring researchers and academicians to the field.
